Staying near Cradle Mountain

Being straight with you

An hour out, for a fraction of it

Accommodation at Cradle Mountain itself is limited, in high demand and priced accordingly. In peak season it books out well ahead, and the alternatives near the park are not much cheaper.

An hour away in Zeehan you get a proper room, a licensed bistro, a bar and a bottle shop, at a rate that is not set by a national park at Christmas.

If you are doing the Dove Lake circuit or a day walk rather than a multi-day trek, an hour each way is a perfectly reasonable commute, and you can be at the gate early.

Breakfast opens at 5am, every day

Getting to the park gate early is the difference between a good day and a car park. Breakfast from 5am makes an early run realistic.

What else the hour buys you

  • The Tarkine turnoff is here, which Cradle Mountain is not close to.
  • The Spray Tunnel and the Heritage Centre are in town for the day you do not want to drive.
