The Henty River, on the road between Zeehan and Strahan

40 minutes

Zeehan to Strahan

Zeehan to Strahan takes around 40 minutes on a sealed road, and it is one of the more enjoyable short drives on the West Coast.

The road runs through scrub and forest and passes Henty Dunes, which is worth a stop in either direction. It is not a difficult drive, but it is not a fast one either, and there is wildlife about at dawn and dusk.

The reason this page exists is that people planning a West Coast trip usually assume they have to sleep in Strahan to see it. Forty minutes each way is a small price for a quieter town and a room that is not priced for a summer village.

If you are catching a Gordon River cruise, allow the 40 minutes plus check in time, and eat before you leave.

Breakfast opens at 5am, every day

A morning cruise from Strahan means an early departure from Zeehan. Breakfast opens at 5am here, so that is a solved problem rather than a compromise.

Stay the night at the Heemskirk

Forty minutes from Strahan, and considerably calmer in January.
