Ocean Beach near Strahan, the longest beach in Tasmania

At Strahan, 40 minutes away

Ocean Beach

Ocean Beach runs for tens of kilometres south of Strahan, facing directly into the Southern Ocean with nothing between it and South America.

It is not a swimming beach. The surf is heavy, the currents are serious, and the wind usually has an opinion. What it is, is enormous, and standing on it is the closest most people get to understanding where they are.

Sunset is the reason to come. The beach faces west into open ocean, and on a clear evening it is the best thing on this coast that costs nothing.

It is roughly 40 minutes from Zeehan to Strahan, and a short run out to the beach from there.

Stay the night at the Heemskirk

Watch the sunset, then drive back to a bed and a bistro rather than a full village.
