Strahan is a small village carrying a lot of summer demand, and the prices reflect that from about November. It is the single most expensive place to sleep on this coast in January.
Zeehan is 40 minutes away on a sealed road. That is a 40 minute drive each way against a materially different room rate, a bistro that is open, and a town that is not full.
The one thing you genuinely give up is walking back from dinner. If you are doing a big night in Strahan, stay in Strahan. For everything else the drive is a fair swap.

The Gordon River cruise departs Strahan in the morning, so you are leaving here early. Breakfast opens at 5am, which very few places 40 minutes out can offer.
